Battle of the Alamo
The Battle of the Alamo happened in 1836 when Mexican troops overran the fort. Santa Anna’s uniform and Crockett’s rifle are inside this building which has been preserved for 200 years since 1836 Battle at Alamo. On February 23, 1836, a Mexican general named Santa Anna led an army of somewhere between 1500 and 2000 men to destroy the Alamo. They surrounded it and laid siege for 13 days until March sixteenth when they finally breached the walls. The defenders made their last stand in various buildings throughout the Alamo complex. There were only 189 survivors out of about 180 Texans inside! Remember those who fell at Goliad? Well remember this too: General Sam Houston got his revenge two weeks later at San Jacinto .

The Alamo holds a deep significance for the United States. It was built in 1724 by missionaries to spread Catholicism, and it has since become one of Texas’s most historic landmarks. The Alamo is now recognized as an important part of American history as well as US culture because it sparked a revolution amongst settlers who wanted freedom from their oppressive government. In 1836 Mexican troops led by General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna stormed into San Antonio intent on destroying those inside the Alamo fortress including Texan rebels fighting alongside William Barret Travis and Jim Bowie to protect what they believed in during a time when all other options seemed out of reach for them .
