Notes on updates:
- Dan Crenshaw (TX-2) lost the Republican primary on March 3, 2026 to Texas State Representative Steve Toth. Steve Toth is the GOP nominee and will face Democrat Shaun Finnie in the general election on November 3, 2026. TX-02 is a heavily Republican district, so Steve Toth is the incoming congressman (effective January 2027). Dan Crenshaw remains the current sitting member until the end of his term on January 3, 2027.
- Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18) passed away on July 19, 2024. She had represented Texas’s 18th Congressional District since 1995. The seat has since been filled through special elections and succession: after her death, the district saw brief interim service before Christian Menefee (D) was sworn in as the current representative in February 2026.
- Tony Gonzales (TX-23) is out — he resigned on April 14, 2026. The district is currently vacant (special election pending).
- Several districts have new or updated members due to retirements, deaths, primary losses, special elections, or other changes since 2024–2025 (e.g., TX-12: Craig Goldman; TX-18 succession to Christian Menefee; TX-26 and TX-32 reflect current holders).
- Dan Crenshaw (TX-2): Defeated in Republican primary by State Rep. Steve Toth. Toth is the new GOP nominee.
- TX-23: Vacant since Tony Gonzales resigned April 14, 2026. Special election pending.
- TX-18: High-profile Democratic runoff today between Rep. Christian Menefee (current holder) and Rep. Al Green.
- Redistricting impact: Multiple open seats and incumbent shifts (e.g., Al Green to TX-18, Julie Johnson/Colin Allred runoff in TX-33, Greg Casar to TX-37).
- Runoff results (May 26) will finalize several nominees — check official sources tonight/tomorrow for final updates.
- Most races remain heavily Republican-favored due to the new map; a handful of South Texas districts (15, 28, 34) could be competitive.
