Louisiana Senator John Kennedy once said in a wager, “Popeyes chicken sandwich is among the best fried chicken God ever put breath in.” Of course, he is from Louisiana where Popeyes is revered. And, of course, that was before Whataburger came out with their own Whataburger Spicy Chicken Sandwich.
So, the 2021 Chicken Sandwich War is now Popeyes vs. Whataburger. Will the Whataburger Spicy Chicken Sandwich be all the rage in Texas? Business Insider listed the Whataburger Spicy Chicken Sandwich as one of the most-loved fast-food releases of 2020.
The Back Story
In the first place, The back story: Whataburger introduced the “Spicy” chicken sandwich in September of 2020. It was such a hit they decided to keep it and put it on a brioche bun. The Whataburger sandwich is defined as a perfectly marinated, crispy chicken filet with fresh and cool lettuce, mayonnaise and pickles. Were they planning on throwing a dog in that chicken sandwich war fight for a long time?
Read the stories of people getting into violent fights and shotguns pulled when there was a shortage of the Popeyes chicken sandwich. I wonder if the new Whataburger spicy chicken will spark the same emotions? A chicken sandwich war is better than the other kind.
