Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn and defensive lineman Carlos Watkins were the first to be identified as at risk for COVID-19. They were sent home from AT&T Stadium prior to the preseason game against Houston on Saturday, August 21, 2021. They were placed in COVID protocol out of an abundance of caution.

On Monday, CeeDee Lamb, Israel Mukuamu, and Malik Hooker were added to the COVID protocol list. If CeeDee Lamb tests negative for COVID, he will be allowed to return without being in quarantine for 10 days because he is vaccinated.

The team reverted to virtual meetings on Sunday and Monday to prevent the possible spread of the virus. According to Mike Fisher’s article, Coach McCarthy said, “We’re just being cautious and want to make sure that we contain this outbreak and just be smart with that.” Dallas Cowboys defense dominating in #Training Camp.

Dak Prescott is at full speed at Dallas Cowboys #training camp

The best news of the week out of the Cowboys Camp came from an announcement from Kellen Moore. Moore revealed that Dak Prescott is at full speed. On Thursday, August 26, 2021, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said, “We’re not looking at anything from a limitation standpoint. . . We’re just playing ball at this point.” He is expected to start in the Week 1 season opener on September 9 in Tampa Bay.

The Cowboys’ Director of Rehabilitation Britt Brown and training staff worked with Dak Prescott since his injury caused by straining his right latissimus. This is to make sure that his passing arm is in tip-top shape for the regular season. He was able to complete 11 of 12 attempts during Wednesday’s camp practice session.

The competitive nature of the 2021 Dallas Cowboys is upping the ante for them to work harder and suffer consequences imposed by their teammates for dropped balls or miscues. Missing a meal or having to do extra pushups are just a couple of the penalties enforced by the wagers from the Cowboys defensive backs as they hold one another to a higher standard. The training camp practices have been dominated by the defensive secondary. They are working hard to lock in on the ball and run away with the interceptions. Maurice Canady and Trevon Diggs are approaching their positions as receivers for the Cowboys’ defense rather than just trying to deflect a pass.

The defense is working hard in camp so that they will be able to get the ball back into the hands of Quarterback Dak Prescott during the regular season games. They are motivated to try to get the ball back during every play. They are trying to create fumbles and interceptions in practice so that they will be in the top half of the league in stats during the 2021 season.

The players’ level of passion and intensity has been speaking volumes during Training Camp. The quarterbacks on the roster will continue to battle for their spot as Prescott’s backup until Week 1. The preseason finale is on Sunday against Jacksonville.
